Privacy policy

Who we are
TONT (Todo or Not Todo) is an iPhone app made by Bing Cheng, an independent developer. "We" in this policy means the person who builds and runs TONT. This policy covers the app and this website, tont.app.
What stays on your phone
The app has no account and no server of its own. These stay on your iPhone and we never receive them:
- Your tasks, titles, subtasks, due times and timers.
- Your groups, their names and colours.
- Your History, streaks and sleep schedule.
- Apple Reminders sync. TONT reads and writes the TONT list on your phone through Apple. If you use iCloud, Apple syncs that list under its own privacy policy. We never see it.
- Notifications. They are scheduled on your phone and not sent through us.
Deleting the app deletes all of this, except the TONT list in Apple Reminders. That list stays in Reminders until you delete it there.
What we collect
We collect three kinds of data. None of it carries your name. It is pseudonymous: tied to a random ID the app creates on your phone, not to you as a person.
- Usage events. Things like "a task was added", "a timer started" or "Settings opened", with details such as counts, durations, the hour of day, whether a task has a due date, and which settings are on. Also the app version, iOS version, device model, language, time zone, and the country set on your phone. Our analytics provider also estimates your country and city from your IP address. Purpose: see what works, fix what breaks, and decide what to build.
- Your onboarding quiz answers, if you give them. The quiz arrives in TONT 4.1. Purpose: decide what to build, and choose what our own ads say and where we run them.
- Purchase status. Whether you have unlocked Todo or Not Todo Pro, through RevenueCat, using an anonymous ID. Purpose: unlock what you paid for and restore it on a new phone.
The onboarding quiz is optional. Every question can be skipped, and every question except the sleep one offers "Rather not say". There is no free text. The fixed choices are:
- What you do: Student, Employee, Freelancer or self-employed, Founder or small business, Parent running a home, Between things, Something else.
- Apps you have tried for lists: Apple Reminders, Notes, Todoist, Things, TickTick, Microsoft To Do, Google Tasks, Notion, Paper, Nothing yet.
- What is hardest about getting things done: Starting, Remembering, Staying on one thing, Too many lists, Knowing where time goes.
- Which features you want ("todo" or "not todo" for each): Lock Screen timer, Dynamic Island, Groups, Subtasks, Streaks, Sleep schedule, Apple Reminders sync, History.
- When you switch off: Early bird, Night owl, Somewhere in between.
- How you found TONT: Searched the App Store, Browsing the App Store, A friend told me, TikTok or Instagram, Reddit, YouTube, A website or article, An ad, Somewhere else.
If you send feedback from the app, it goes as an email from your own Mail app. We get what you write, any attachments, and your email address, and use them only to reply.
On this website we use Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies. If you sign up for launch news, we store your email address and use it only for that.
What we never collect
- The text of your tasks, subtasks, group names or anything else you type.
- Your name, contacts, photos or calendar.
- Your precise location. TONT never asks for location access.
- Your phone's advertising identifier. TONT does not use App Tracking Transparency because it does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- Screen recordings. Session replay is off.
Your quiz answers are never sent to Meta, Google, TikTok or any other ad network.
How we use it
- To improve the app and fix problems.
- To decide what to build next.
- To choose our own ad messages and where to run them, for example whether to talk to students or freelancers. This uses totals, not individual answers.
We never sell your data. TONT shows no ads.
Who processes it
These companies process data for us. They may not use it for their own purposes.
- PostHog. Usage events and quiz answers. TONT sends to PostHog's US cloud (us.i.posthog.com).
- RevenueCat, a US company. Purchase status and an anonymous purchase ID.
- Apple. App Store downloads, payments and refunds, under Apple's own privacy policy. If you agreed in iOS Settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple also gives us crash reports and App Store statistics.
- Vercel. Hosts this website and runs its page-view analytics. Launch-news sign-ups are stored in a database run by Supabase.
Your choices
- Skip the quiz, skip any question, or pick "Rather not say".
- From TONT 4.1, turn off Settings > Share usage analytics. The app stops sending usage events and removes your quiz answers from your analytics profile. Your answers stay on your phone, where they only shape the app for you.
- Ask us to delete the analytics data tied to your device, or ask what we hold. Email us at the address under Contact. Because the data has no name on it, we will tell you how to identify it.
- Turn Apple Reminders sync and notifications on or off in Settings at any time.
How long we keep it
- Usage events and quiz answers: up to 24 months, then deleted. Earlier if you ask.
- Purchase records: as long as needed to restore your purchase and meet tax and accounting rules.
- Launch-news sign-ups: until launch news has gone out or you ask us to remove you.
- Feedback emails: as long as the conversation needs, then deleted.
Children
TONT is not directed at children under 13, and the quiz does not ask your age. If we learn that we hold data from a child under 13, we delete it.
International transfers and legal basis
Our analytics and purchase services process data in the United States, wherever you live. Where your local law needs a legal basis, we rely on your consent for the quiz answers, which you can withdraw in Settings at any time, and on our legitimate interest in understanding how the app is used for basic usage events. You can object to that too, by turning analytics off.
Changes
If this policy changes, we update it here and change the date at the top. If a change affects how we use data you already gave us, we will ask again in the app.
